Limited Edition Gamesday 2004 Archaon

The 2004 Gamesday Archaon miniature is one of my favorite limited edition miniatures GW made.  I figured I would paint him up for my Chaos Army.

I chose a black color scheme to practice shading and highlighting black.  I am relatively happy with the result.

Originally I painted him in metallic colors but it really overwhelmed the model.  Much happier with the black.

Screamers of Tzeentch

Been a while since I posted, been doing some work so I will post some more later but just some quick pictures tonight.

Four Citadel AD&D Shades 1985 (ADD83)

A very quick paint job on four old Citadel Shades from their 1985 licensed AD&D range.  This has always been one of my favorite ranges, lots of character.  Many of the miniatures came with slightly different variations fir each pose.  Unfortunately, only one shade with no variants!

I put them on some metal dungeon bases, about the size of a quarter, that I had sculpted and cast almost a decade ago at this point.  I much prefer the slender bases, as compared to the more standard GW style, they blend in a little more with whatever playing surface you are using.

The Second Star Wars Speeder

Just finished the second speeder for my Star Wars Legion Rebels.  The same basic color scheme as the first one.  Went a little heavier on the weathering and didn’t do any decals.

Star Wars Legion Land Speeder

Yes, I am a terrible blogger but I have gotten some painting done and hopefully will get cracking towards 400 miniatures a little bit faster.  First up is a Land Speeder for Star Wars Legion.

I am working on speed painting a little, on vehicles and things with large flat surfaces I am doing a lot of wet brushing.  Wet painting is basically the same as dry brushing without wiping anything off the brush first.  It’s a little faster than normal painting and doesn’t get as “ashy” as dry brushing does.

Decals are actually from the Bandai 1/48 scale snowspeeder kit, you can get on Amazon below

https://www.amazon.com/Bandai-Hobby-Star-Speeder-Building/dp/B00U7A8MT4/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=2USVVKRFPK0HX&keywords=bandai+snowspeeder+1%2F48&qid=1682796372&sprefix=bandai+snow%2Caps%2C209&sr=8-2

Requires more assembly than the Legion version but comes with two sets of decals and is almost exactly the same size.

Starting a New Year

Well it’s been 12 years since I really had time to post.  Since my last post I have gotten married, started a family, moved a couple of times.  Really just been doing a lot of other stuff that didn’t involve much painting.  Sitting here on the eve of a new year got me thinking about what I would like to accomplish with my pile of shame.

I think putting it all down in writing will help me start to really tackle the pile of shame this year, not that anyone is reading this blog!  Oddly enough while my painting pretty much went by the wayside over the last 12 years my incessant collecting of miniatures I will probably never paint has kept chugging right along.  Seriously, kickstarter is the devil and basically the same as putting a crack dealer in every addiction house.  Here is to hoping they just stop making Zombicide games!

So my first goal is simple, paint 400 miniatures this year.  My second goal is to accomplish this by tackling all the half finished projects I have sitting around the house.  I am planning on painting the following stuff this year:

Italian Hill Tribes by Aventine (90 miniatures)

Horus Heresy Iron Hands by Forgeworld (120 miniatures)

Warhammer 40k Celestial Lions (40 miniatures)

Warhammer Chaos Warriors (50 mjniatures)

SAGA Vikings by Wargames Foundry (60 miniatures)

The fellowship of the Ring by GW (9 minis and Bill the Pony)

And 30 other random miniatures to try and keep my going when I get bored of big projects!

Iron Warriors

My first squad of straight marines. Aspiring Champion with a plasma pistol and power fist, marine with a plasma gun, and another marine with an autocannon. All my Iron Warriors have the Iron Warrior torso and shoulder pads.

Iron Warriors Raptors

Thought I would post some pictures of my Iron Warriors I just finished. 10 Havocs. I figure having jump packs during a siege could really be useful. But I did find out that it is really annoying to paint caution stripes on a curved surface. Well 60 more to go.

I thought I would give the squad a couple storm shields. It doesn't fit in the army list but I like the way they look.

Early Imperial Romans

I put together 30 Early Imperial Roman Legionnaires by Warlord Games. I was a little surprised how small they are (as you can see in the picture below) but the quality and detail was

very good. I was pretty impressed by how easy they are to get off the sprue. I didn't have to use any tools at all and they popped off the sprue without causing any damage to the pieces. I had enough parts to build 3 command models (centurion, signifier, and musician), 17 models with pilums, and 10 with gladius.

Rogue Trader Iron Warriors Terminators

Just finished some Rogue Trader terminators. Painted them as Iron Warriors. I went with a dark metallic color instead of the bright silver that is a common color for Iron Warriors. I actually prefer the old Rogue Trader terminators compared to the newer metal or plastic ones.

I decided to paint the warning stripes on the side of all of the shoulder pads to add some color to what really turns out to be a pretty monochrome color scheme. Makes them look a lot better without having to spend a lot of time doing it.

Below is the classic terminator sergeant with the correct arms. Probably my favorite terminator model.

The old school heavy flamer. Really cool looking. I decided to go with two of these in my squad. Not really the most effective weapon but I guess it would make sense for an army that is supposed to be all about laying siege to people.

Limited Edition Sergeant Centurius

I have had this minis for a while so I finally opened the blister and painted him. So here he is the man, the myth, the legend..... Legion of the Damned Sergeant Centurius.

March Update

Ok, so looking back on February it was a pretty good month. I finished an entire army of Chaos Space Marine Black Legion for Warhammer 40k. Not bad for 28 days. Over 2500 points of models and they look pretty good. No vehicles but pretty good.

I didn't finish the dreadnought because I still haven't ordered it from Forge World so I guess that is a pretty good reason why I didn't finish it.

I am looking forward to March but I will probably get almost no painting done this month. I have two term papers due. One on the 14th and one on the 21st so that will just about ruin the rest of the month for me. Gotta love grad school. Anyway probably will get some stuff done. Right now I have 14 terminators almost finished for my Black Legion so these will probably get done next week.

Black Legion Tactical Squad

My last tactical squad for the Black Legion. Comes with a Heavy Bolter and a Plasmagun.

Black Legion Raptors

10 Black Legion Raptors. All have the old Rogue Trader jump packs on. I had a bunch of these and did not really like how they looked on loyalist Space Marines so I decided to stick them on my Chaos Space Marines and I really like the look. I have never been a big fan of the Raptor models themselves so I decided to go with just normal Chaos Space Marine models for these. Just like the rest of my army they are all sporting the Black Legion shoulder pads from GW.

I like this guy just because he has a Raptor head so he looks a little different than the rest.

Black Legion Havocs I

10 of the 20 Havocs I finished last week. This squad has 4 heavy bolters while the other squad has 4 lascannons. As soon as my camera battery charges up I will post more pics.

Lord of the Rings Barrow Wights

I finished up four Barrow Wights for Lord of the Rings. Also played around with the camera a little but so the pictures should look a lot better. Anyway here they are. Painted just like my Army of the Dead from January.

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Well I just finished my first 3 tactical squads for my Black Legion. So that makes 30 miniatures painted in the first week of February. Not bad and it has me on track to finish all 3000 points by the end of the month.
Below are all the pictures I took. Should be 15 of them. Hopefully I will have two more squads finished tomorrow.

This is the first tactical squad. Consists of 10 Chaos Space Marines with an aspiring champion with a power fist, marine with plasma gun, and a marine with a missile launcher.

Tactical squad 2 has 10 marines with an aspiring champion with a power sword, marinw with meltagun, and a marine with an autocannon. The meltagun in this squad comes from the old Fabius Bile boxex set. Just something a little different.

The last tactical squad is another 10 man squad with an aspiring champion sporting another power sword, marine with meltagun, and a marine with a missile launcher.
